RE: Joliete, IL, Need nice rv resort

We visited Empress Casino and stayed in their RV park. We liked it, but I wouldn't want to spend 3 months there. I'm not sure if they even have weekly or monthly rates. Wide lots, nice trees & grass. Watched the deer graze in the morning behind our RV.

RE: Ameristar Casino cc Vicksburg Ms.

We'll have to stop in Vicksburg some day, would enjoy touring the historic locations there. No reason we haven't stopped, except we were usually in a hurry when passing through. We usually had just been at, or heading to, an overnight at the Horseshoe in Bossier City.

RE: Headin for Vegas

I'll add a vote for both the Silverton (great free aquarium and a Bass Pro Shops co-located) and Mandalay Bay and the "Shark Reef" aquarium which ISN'T free but is OK for the cost.
Here are a couple other FREE aquariums:
Mandalay Bay hotel lobby, free standing tank in the middle of the room
Mirage Hotel lobby, long tank behind the front in desk

Tampa area RV park "ON" the Gulf of Mexico

Hi All,
I'm only aware of one RV park in the Tampa Bay area that is actually "on" the gulf of Mexico -- Ft. Desoto County Park. Does anyone know of any others? Any flavor is fine; county, state, federal, commercial, dry camping, etc. with Gulf-waterfront RV spots.

RE: What can cause flywheel to crack? Have a vibration

...To the O/P.
If it's the engine then vibration should be present in neutral
If it's only present under load I'd suspect engine internal (Cylinder mis-firing) more than anything else
Though there are some bearing issues that might only show up under load.
Hi wa8yxm - the vibration that started all this was from the cracked flexplate. After the R&R there was still a similar vibration, but not as bad, and without the noise. This remaining vibration was caused by the flexplate being installed backwards (and bent in the process by the way). Now that the flexplate has been replaced a second time, and installed corretly, there is no vibration at all. Smooth as silk. :) Although we don't know why the original one cracked, all seems well at this time.

RE: What can cause flywheel to crack? Have a vibration

End result -- you're not going to believe this :E
Are you ready? The shop that replaced the cracked flexplate put it on backwards! :h
I had a good recommendation for a mobile RV tech who is also a mechanic. He came out and we talked briefly about the problem, he cranked up the engine and listened/felt for the vibration. Right away he said; "I bet those guys put your flexplate on backwards, it happens more than you might think" Sure enough, he pulled the cover off and there it was. I paid him $100 for the service call and made an appointment with the local Chevy truck dealer.
I took photos of the flexplate and sent to the original repair facility. They said yep, it's backwards, send us an estimate. The Chevy dealer invoiced them and they paid for the repair of their mistake, which I appreciated.
So now I have a smooth running old 454 again.

RE: Dometic Refrigerator Burner - does this look right?

Thanks to all. Joe and Charlotte, I'm going to check the list. We just bought the refrigerator last year, and it was just in for the 1 year "warranty preservation" inspection so I'll be pretty upset if it's on the list!
Thanks again,
Mac

Dometic Refrigerator Burner - does this look right?

Here's a subject I'm ignorant of, and I know there are some qualified folks on here.
Look at the two photos below. Should the aluminum tab be pulled back like this? Shouldn't it be pushed over where it covers the propane jet and protects it from wind?

RE: Casino Camping - what are casinos doing to attract you?

rwmmdj that's a good point. Casinos heavily market performers to get you in the door. They may not make a profit on the show itself, but they hope the attendees will buy meals and drinks, maybe a room, and of course they hope you'll gamble.
I don't know if I've seen an increase in free offers of this kind or not. For us, I think it's about level.
One note, a casino stage is a great place to see your favorite performer "up close". Some venues only seat 300, so there are no bad seats compared to a concert where you're in the 2nd deck of a football stadium. We've seen some major acts that were selling out stadiums a couple of years ago and are now playing to cozy little groups of a few hundred fans.

RE: Casino Camping with Kids

On the topic of "family friendly casinos with RV parks" here's just one that I would submit for your consideration.
Even if you don't gamble at all, this seems like a good location for a family adventure. I'm assuming you want a FHU RV park and aren't planning to tent camp in a national park -- apples and oranges ;)
When you look at every amenity, activity, and type of entertainment in this location you'd be hard pressed to name another RV park in the area with more available for kids and family!
The casino is Cliff Castle Casino, Camp Verde, AZ www.cliffcastlecasino.net
They have an RV Park: www.distantdrumsrvresort.com with a heated pool.
Two things they have going for them in addition to the RV park:
#1: Location - it's right in the middle of a great part of AZ with many things for the family to do together See Attractions Here
#2: The casino itself caters to families and offers a Kids Quest, an arcade, and a bowling alley. See Fun Stuff Here Also several restaurant choices are available from Johnny Rockets to a steakhouse.
What do I see negative here?
* It's close to I-17, but you might like that for convenience.
* The sites in the RV park seem a little tight. I like more space.
* The fact the RV park is on the other side of the highway from the casinos is a negative, but I'm told they have excellent shuttle service.

RE: Casino Camping with Kids

Speaking of anniversaries, I'll have to tell our story (short version). Chris and I met in February 1983 and were married in April, 1983. Yes, a 2 month courtship, and we just celebrated #25 on April 23rd. :B
